In 1987, six lacrosse organizations of young boys united to establish SEPYLA, aiming to foster the sport's expansion among youth players and fortify high school programs across the wider Philadelphia area.
Fast forward nearly three decades, and SEPYLA boasts an impressive roster of close to 40 member organizations. Its influence has extended beyond its initial boundaries, catalyzing the establishment of youth leagues in Chester County, Lehigh County, and New Jersey. High school teams drawing from SEPYLA's member pool stand tall among the nation's most formidable competitors.
From its outset, SEPYLA has championed community-centric initiatives aligned with local school districts. The organization staunchly believes in the adage that competition breeds excellence, thus advocating for its members to participate in its most challenging divisions. Conversely, SEPYLA discourages players from seeking competition outside their communities, aiming to furnish a robust competitive landscape for its member organizations and elevate the sport's caliber overall.
Yet, SEPYLA remains cognizant of unique circumstances that may necessitate exceptions to its rules. It acknowledges that such exceptions can sometimes present opportunities to cultivate lacrosse in areas where it might otherwise languish.
